EVs as mediators in intestinal epithelial barrier maturation
The EBB group investigates Epithelial Barrier Biology, with a particular focus on how extracellular vesicles (EVs) influence its function during development, homeostasis, and disease. One of our key projects explores how EVs derived from human breast milk contribute to intestinal barrier integrity and gut maturation.
To enhance the translational potential of our research, we employ human intestinal organoids – advanced in vitro models that closely mimic the human gut. Our goal is to develop physiologically relevant human models to uncover the role of milk-derived EVs in epithelial barrier function, ultimately aiming to support the development of novel therapeutic strategies and bring them closer to clinical application.
